Servers and bartenders can now accept contactless payments on the same iPhone they take orders on — completing GoTab’s contactless service model, in which guests can already open and pay their own tabs by phone. Free for the first six months, then $0.10 per transaction.
ARLINGTON, Va. — September 29, 2026 — GoTab, the Entertainment Commerce Platform, today announced support for Tap to Pay on iPhone in its iOS point-of-sale app, letting servers and bartenders accept contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and other digital wallets on the same iPhone they use to take orders — with no payment terminal, card reader or dongle.
The addition completes GoTab’s contactless service model. Guests have long been able to open, manage and pay their own tab from their own phone through GoTab’s QR ordering and payment. With Tap to Pay on iPhone, staff can now accept payment on theirs. Operators can run either side of the transaction, or both, on devices they already own.
In practice, a staff member opens a tab, takes the order and closes it out on a single device. The guest holds a contactless credit or debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch or other supported digital wallet near the top of the staff member’s iPhone.
GoTab’s iOS app already gives operators and staff access to GoTab POS from compatible Apple devices. Tap to Pay on iPhone extends that app through the final step of the transaction, removing the need for a separate payment device on supported transactions and giving operators greater flexibility in where and how service happens.

Guests Pay on Their iPhone, Now Staff Can Accept Payment on Theirs
“We built GoTab so a guest could open a tab and pay from their own phone without flagging anyone down,” said Tim McLaughlin, CEO and co-founder of GoTab. “The piece we hadn’t closed was the other side of that same transaction for operators using iPhones as their Handheld Point of Sale. Tap to Pay on iPhone closes that gap. A manager can now stand up a new service point in the time it takes to unlock an iPhone; i.e., a pop-up bar, a patio, a festival gate, without buying new hardware or waiting for a new one to be delivered.”
Most contactless hospitality technology addresses one side of the transaction. Guest-facing QR ordering lets the guest pay without waiting for a server; staff-facing mobile payments let the server close out without walking to a terminal. GoTab now supports both on the iPhone.
That matters because service models rarely sit at one extreme. A brewery taproom may run guest self-ordering on weekends and full table service midweek. A hotel may want poolside guests to scan and pay while the lobby bar stays staffed. Operators can set the ratio per venue, per area or per shift, rather than committing the whole operation to one service model.
One iPhone for Ordering, Tabs and Contactless Payment
Hospitality teams increasingly need to serve guests beyond a traditional fixed POS station. Staff move between tables, patios, bars, event spaces and other areas of a large venue, and every extra device they carry is one more thing to charge, track and replace.
GoTab’s iOS app already lets staff bring the point of sale with them. Tap to Pay on iPhone extends that mobility through the final step of the transaction: instead of taking an order on an iPhone and then reaching for a separate payment device, staff complete the entire transaction: order, tab management and payment, on the same device.
Where an iPhone POS Helps Most: Patios, Pop-Ups, Events and Large Venues
The capability is designed for the moments when demand outpaces fixed infrastructure. Operators can add mobile service points for a busy shift, open service in a new area of the venue, or equip seasonal and event staff without purchasing and managing additional payment hardware.
For multi-unit and large-format operators — stadiums, food halls, breweries, family entertainment centers and festival grounds — that means the cost of adding a register is the cost of a phone the business may already own, rather than a hardware procurement cycle.
Pricing: Six Months at No Additional Cost, Then $0.10 per Transaction
To make it easy for existing GoTab operators to begin using Tap to Pay on iPhone, GoTab will offer the capability at no additional cost for the first six months following its release.
After the introductory period, operators who choose to continue using Tap to Pay on iPhone through the GoTab iOS app will pay a nominal $0.10 per transaction processed through the app.
There is no requirement for operators to use iOS, and the new capability does not change GoTab’s existing hardware options or core platform pricing. It gives operators another choice in how they equip their teams and accept payments.
How Tap to Pay on iPhone Fits GoTab’s Hardware-Agnostic POS Approach
GoTab has long taken an open, hardware-agnostic approach to hospitality technology, supporting a range of devices and ordering experiences — handheld POS on everyday Android phones, self-ordering kiosks, QR ordering and payment, kitchen display systems and dedicated payment hardware — rather than requiring operators to build their businesses around a single piece of equipment.
Tap to Pay on iPhone extends that approach to Apple devices. Operators can continue using dedicated GoTab payment hardware where it makes sense while also turning compatible iPhones into mobile ordering and payment devices for other workflows.
The result is a more flexible approach to service: operators choose the hardware that fits each part of their operation, rather than designing the operation around the hardware.
Availability
Tap to Pay on iPhone for the GoTab iOS app is expected to be available in October 2026. Additional information, including supported devices, regional availability and setup instructions for existing GoTab operators, will be announced as the release approaches.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tap to Pay on iPhone in the GoTab app?
Tap to Pay on iPhone lets a staff member accept contactless payments directly on a supported iPhone, with no separate card reader or payment terminal. In the GoTab iOS app it works alongside GoTab POS, so the same iPhone used to open a tab and enter an order also accepts the payment.
Can guests still pay on their own phone?
Yes. GoTab’s QR ordering and payment lets guests open, view, split and pay their own tab from their own phone without a server. Tap to Pay on iPhone adds the staff side of the same transaction, so a venue can run guest self-payment, staff-accepted payment, or both on the same tab.
Which payment methods can guests use?
Contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Apple Watch and other supported digital wallets. Guests hold the card or device near the top of the staff member’s iPhone.
Does an operator need extra hardware?
No. Tap to Pay on iPhone requires only a supported iPhone running the GoTab iOS app. No card reader, dongle or payment terminal is needed for supported transactions.
How much does Tap to Pay on iPhone cost with GoTab?
GoTab is offering the capability at no additional cost for the first six months following release. After that, operators who continue using it pay $0.10 per transaction processed through the GoTab iOS app. Core GoTab platform pricing and existing hardware options are unchanged.
Which iPhones are supported, and when is it available?
Tap to Pay on iPhone requires a supported iPhone and the latest version of iOS; Apple lists iPhone XS and later as compatible. GoTab expects the capability to be available in October 2026 and will publish its full supported-device list and setup instructions for existing operators closer to release.
Do GoTab operators have to switch to iPhones?
No. GoTab is hardware-agnostic. Operators can continue running GoTab POS on Android handhelds, kiosks, dedicated payment hardware and the web, and use Tap to Pay on iPhone only where it fits their service model.
