GoTab vs. Toast: The Best POS for Food Halls, FECs & Multi-Vendor Venues

As food halls, family entertainment centers (FECs), and multi-operator venues grow in popularity, choosing the right point-of-sale (POS) platform is more important than ever. Operators need a system that supports multiple vendors, keeps guests moving, and scales easily across locations. Two major contenders—GoTab and Toast—offer powerful features, but differ significantly in how they serve these complex environments.

Let’s take a closer look at how each platform performs across the key areas that matter most in multi-vendor venues.

GoTab: Built for Shared Spaces and Seamless Service

GoTab is purpose-built for hospitality venues with multiple operators under one roof. From centralized guest experiences to modular vendor control, GoTab delivers flexibility without sacrificing performance.

Key Strengths

  • Multi-Vendor Ordering Guests can browse, order, and pay from multiple vendors via a single QR code or RFID (GoTab Pass) card. Orders are routed automatically to each vendor’s kitchen, simplifying operations and reducing guest wait times.

  • Automated Vendor Payouts GoTab tracks every sale in real time, automatically allocating revenue and deducting fees or rent for each vendor—no spreadsheets, manual invoicing, or end-of-month headaches.

  • Tab Sharing & Checkless Payments With GoTab’s Easy Tab feature, guests can start a shared tab and roam the venue freely—ordering from multiple vendors without needing to close out or re-enter payment info. Tabs are tracked automatically and can be split, transferred, or closed at any time by staff or guests.

  • Seamless Integrations GoTab’s open API connects with a wide range of hospitality tech—including self-pour systems, accounting tools, kitchen display systems, loyalty platforms, and reservation apps. That gives operators more freedom to build a tech stack that fits their unique needs.

  • Guest-Centric Experience No app download required. Guests simply scan, order, and enjoy. Reorders are easy, receipts are digital, they can walk out when they’re ready—no waiting for checks or flagging down servers–and retrieve their receipts online.

  • Custom Branding & Menu Control Operators can fully white-label the guest experience, customizing menus, branding, and messaging across all digital touchpoints. Whether you manage a luxury food hall or a casual game bar, the experience stays consistent with your brand.

Toast: Robust for Traditional Operations, But Limited for Multi-Vendor Models

Toast is one of the most widely adopted POS platforms in the restaurant industry, especially among traditional service models. It’s packed with features, but some limitations surface in shared-space environments.

Key Features

  • All-in-One POS System
Combines ordering, payments, labor management, reporting, and inventory in one tightly integrated platform.

  • Robust Reporting Tools
Operators get detailed insights on sales, staffing, and performance across locations—ideal for multi-unit brands under one ownership structure.

  • Customizable Menu Management
Menus and pricing can be updated in real-time from a central dashboard.

  • Proprietary Hardware
Toast offers its own branded handhelds, terminals, and kiosks that are built for restaurant durability—but require upfront investment and often long-term contracts.

  • Third-Party Integrations
While Toast integrates with major delivery platforms and some third-party tools, it’s a more closed ecosystem than GoTab and typically requires approved integrations.

Final Verdict: GoTab vs. Toast for Food Halls, FECs and Multi-Merchant Locations

For food halls, entertainment venues, and multi-merchant locations, GoTab clearly stands out as the more versatile, scalable solution. Its architecture is built around the needs of decentralized operations—supporting multiple vendors, shared tabs, and frictionless guest experiences. From QR ordering and tab sharing to revenue splitting and real-time vendor payouts, GoTab is purpose-built for these complex environments.

Toast, while an excellent POS for traditional restaurants, is best suited for single-brand or single-ownership concepts. Its strength lies in tightly integrated front- and back-of-house operations, not shared-space flexibility.

If your venue is built on variety—whether it’s a food hall, brewery market, or FEC—GoTab provides the tools to manage complexity, deliver standout guest experiences, and scale with confidence. Learn more and download the fact sheet see GoTab for Food Halls.

Situated “in the heart of it all, yet tranquil enough to make you feel away from it all too,” The Limelight Hotel Snowmass offers 99 hotel rooms and 11 residences, as well as footsteps-to-gondola access in winter and summer — right in the middle of Snowmass Base Village.

The Situation

Especially over the last few years, the Limelight Hotels IT team had witnessed a significant shift to contactless technology in the hospitality industry. After evaluating friction points in the guest journey, aligning with modern technology platforms in their restaurant was determined to be an effective way to offer elevated contactless dining experiences to their guests while also evolving their technology platforms to continue to support long-term company goals. Limelight Hotel partnered with GoTab to provide an enhanced on-demand dining experience on par with the brand’s reputation for exceptional guest service.

The Solution

Reducing Staff Touch Points Without Sacrificing Guest Experience

Guests are now able to begin a tab from their room or the property’s restaurant by scanning a QR code, texting a link to friends or family members on the ski slope to add in their orders, then meeting up together at the patio or lodge to enjoy their meal and après ski festivities without interruption. By streamlining tasks like inputting orders and processing payments, this eliminates friction for hotel staff and allows them to focus on delivering renowned guest service for a memorable experience. Since partnering with GoTab, Limelight Snowmass has consistently seen higher check averages and sales.

“We found the Point of Sale platforms we were looking at offered the guest and staff limited opportunities to further reduce touch points or improve the traditional restaurant experience. The GoTab platform enabled the guest to take an active role over the flow of their experience while simultaneously reducing touch points and further streamlining restaurant operations.”Nick Giglio, Manager of Hotel IT Operations, The Little Nell Hotel Group

According to the Limelight Hotels team, some of the other platforms that were evaluated were either missing some of the pieces they were looking for, had weak customer support models, or had little willingness to develop integrations to existing hotel platforms already in place. To that end, GoTab integrated with cloud-based platform, Infor. Together, GoTab and Infor are providing dynamic solutions to support central, efficient service across hotel amenities and deliver exceptional guest experiences.

“Previously, guests would call down to the restaurant to begin an order from their room or while they were out enjoying the ski slopes. Using GoTab, guests can now place orders from anywhere on the resort, giving them the on-demand service they want without interrupting their day. GoTab empowers us to give control to the guest, reducing touch points and streamlining overall restaurant operations, making Limelight Hotel the resort of choice for Snowmass.”Nick Giglio, Manager of Hotel IT Operations, The Little Nell Hotel Group

Since introducing GoTab, The Limelight Hotel has seen a consistent level of upsells and items sold per check resulting in additional revenue capture. They have been able to maintain service levels in their restaurants during periods when there was reduced staffing available without significantly diminishing the guest experience.
