Our very own Rick Malthaner took a walk down memory lane with The Beer Mighty Things Podcast.
They talk about his start in the industry many moons ago and all he’s seen - and share how he’s still as enthusiastic as ever. They also dive into the history of POS systems, his kegerator story and his genius kegged seltzer hack!
It’s one of the best formats to hear Rick’s point of view so we definitely encourage you to listen. According to Rick, “Everybody wants to talk about technology. There’s technology out there that’s pretty amazing, but it doesn’t necessarily give people the best experience. The weakness is that they don’t think about things operationally.
The current generation of cloud point of sale are really first generation products. They are ‘cloud-for-cloud-sake’. What they did was take operationally and architecturally build the old systems in the cloud. They end up with a point of sale that’s not different from an architectural standpoint other than being accessible in the cloud. When you think about adding anything, the APIs for those systems are built primarily for online ordering. What that means is, it’s a closed tab. A table can only have one open tab. A lot of the early products and QR stuff that came along during covid couldn’t keep a tab open.”
Then they get into the crux and the power of QR codes heavily utilized by GoTab. They dive into my phenomenal first-hand experiences at Guinness Open Gate in Baltimore and Caboose Tavern in Virginia - Easy, at our own pace, no waiting for a server, no lines, no empty glasses, no waiting on a check, and ultimately a greater overall customer experience.
